The problem
Cash losses at the till are hard to see and harder to prove. Retailers already have cameras pointed at the counter, so the question was whether that footage could be reconciled against the point-of-sale automatically rather than reviewed by hand.
What we built
- Computer-vision pipeline reading the existing camera feeds — no new hardware
- Automatic matching of counted cash against POS transactions
- Exception queue, so only what fails to reconcile reaches a person
- Desktop application for the staff reviewing those exceptions
